HKES on the Move, Cycle Class Seats Go FAST!!!

HKES and Ms. Coleman are Moving on Up

Team HKES has taken over the Patriot Point Challenge this semester.  They are really on the move with great involvement using FitBit Challenges and individual efforts such as Ms. Coleman and her moving desk.  She has taken her office work out in the halls of the school using a rolling desk for her laptop and other items (seen in this photo with the PPC Trophy).  How can you make a change to involve more movement?  Last week I scheduled two walking meetings at HHS.  I met with Teri Nash and Jana Watts on two separate occasions to get in extra steps during a moving meeting.  I've also started using the Schoology app for grading my 100+ online students instead of sitting and staring at my computer screen.  What about your daily email duties?  Why not schedule a 15 minute walking break at some point to answer emails or make phone calls?  Small changes go a long way in the battle for wellness.

Fitness Challenge and Streakers!!

FITNESS CHALLENGE
The best approach to losing fat and gaining fitness is a lifestyle change.  Thanks to PhysIQ Lifestyle Medicine, Homewood City School employees can benefit from this comprehensive approach to weight loss using a three-step process.  First, the metabolic rate measurement will let you know EXACTLY how many calories you need to optimally burn through fat based on your personalized daily caloric needs. Second, the BODPOD will measure exactly how much lean and fat mass your body consists of.  Finally, the nutritionist and exercise physiologist at PhysIQ will individually meet with you to create a 12 week program to best fit your goals.  You will have weekly exercise plans that you can do on your own with limited or no equipment as well as daily monitoring from the Registered Dietician with weekly meetings to review your nutrition.  11 employees have committed to this incredible opportunity.  I have personally benefitted from this program.  I started on Oct. 15th and will have my final BODPOD measurement this upcoming week.  I paid $360 for the program and would gladly pay that again but thanks to PhysIQ partnering with HCS, we now have a discounted price.  Check out the options listed below:

Here is the cost for HCS employees 12 Week Fitness Challenge:
Option 1:  $100= Before and After BODPOD and RMR assessment

Option 2:  $200=Before and After BODPOD and RMR assessment. Either exercise consult OR nutrition consult for the length of the challenge.

Option 3:  $300=Before and After BODPOD and RMR assessment, Exercise consult AND nutrition consult for the length of the challenge.

Please email me with any questions.  Deadline to commit is Wednesday, Jan. 13th.  Don't miss this chance to be the best you can be leading up to Spring Break!

Sweet '16, 2016.

Remember your teenage years?  High energy, low stress and an amazing capacity to eat pizza and not gain an ounce.  Those days are long gone, but as you think about 2016, I want you to consider creating the Sweet '16 for wellness of your adult life.

Next week I will launch an opportunity for employees to be a part of a fitness/nutrition challenge which I have personally experienced since Oct. 15.  It has been a game-changer for me and I really believe the no-nonsense approach is a perfect solution to anyone in search of finding wellness/fitness in 2016.  If you have considered weight loss as part of your plan for this year, please email me and let me explain how I can help you achieve your goals.  This personalized approach has been incredible for me.  At the mid-point of my journey I have lost 6% body fat.  Let me help you achieve your goals in 2016.

STREAKERS  #RWRunStreak-  If you completed your 37 days of running please include that in your Patriot Point Challenge Entry as a COMPLETED RACE.  You have earned a finishers award.  Congratulations on this task.  I know it was not easy and is a huge accomplishment.

FitMas or CRISISmas

CRISISmas Defined
Stay with me here..... CRISISmas is defined as the mid-year struggle for school employees to survive the two week vacation which includes lots of options for unhealthy food and potential couch time which we deserve but know the end result is a return to school with extra pounds and a feeling of dread.  (English teachers, if you are still reading I realize the previous sentence is probably a run-on.)

Instead of returning in January full of dread,  I challenge you to participate in your own version of FITmas instead of CRISISmas.  Insert some FITness into your Christmas.  I recently got a message from a fellow FitBitter, Meagan Malone, who said her goal was to not allow the holiday season to take away her fitness success.  Meagan has a plan in place which is what it takes to succeed.  Plan your work and work your plan.  I'm not suggesting that you avoid EVERY sweet treat, but I am suggesting that you make a conscious effort to not grab a pack of M and M's for the road trip but instead enjoy your mom's homemade chocolate pie for dessert after Christmas dinner!  And how about starting each day with a short workout, maybe walking,  a run (Keep the #RWRunStreak) or a few body weight exercises to help you get your metabolism going first thing!

Bottom line is this.....
Take care of yourself, enjoy special moments with your friends and family and have an awesome Christmas with some added Fitmas.
