Hangout Workout, Spin update, One Point Winners=SCES and HKES Autism Awareness 5K

HANGOUT WORKOUT
So, this happened....
Thursday afternoon at HKES a group of employees and I got together for a workout.  Becky Salls allowed technology to connect HKES with Andrea Wade and HMS/HBOE employees and Teri Nash who tuned in from the comfort of her home!  Three different sites all training together. Google Hangout is sort of like "Skype".  Everyone joined in thanks to technology.  We trained from 4-4:15pm (great workout, short time frame) and had a lot of fun doing it.  If you want to join us this Thursday from your home or from school, just let me know and I'll get you plugged in.  I promise, it's SIMPLE technology and a great workout.

SPIN/CARDIO AND WEIGHT ROOM CIRCUIT
Monday 3:45-4:45pm at HHS come and join Spin, hop on an elliptical or recumbent bike or get in a weight room circuit.
Spin Class #1=3:45pm-4:15pm
Spin Class #2=4:15pm-4:45pm
Elliptical/Recumbent/Stairmaster etc. Available 3:45-4:45pm
Weight Room Machine Circuit=3:45-4:45pm

PLENTY of room for you to train.

SCES Takes the Trophy over HMS
SCES won the trophy b/c of one category-percent participation.  The employees at SCES won the week b/c they had the highest percentage of employees who posted points.  HMS came in second place due to their low number of people who posted points.  Even if you only have 1 point to post, it could be the difference in winning and losing for your team.

HKES 5K FINISHERS
HKES employees have really been on the run lately.  Check out the 5K finishers from this past weekend and soon Dominique Prince will be featured in The Movement Blog.  Her story is impressive, 5K's 15K and half-marathons!!

POST THOSE POINTS. and... of course....

A Team, Video To Go, Spin/Cardio or Weight Room Circuit

A TEAM at HMS

I'm coming to your campus! The pic above is after a superstar group of employees met at HMS for a med ball workout.  This week The A Team workout site will be based on email response from interested employees. I'll show up at the campus with the highest percentage of responders.

Video To Go - The second episode is a great workout for Abs/Core.  Start with the 5 minute version and build up to a 15 minute workout.

Spin/Cardio or machine weight room circuit:  Monday 1/26 is your opportunity to melt away calories during a 3:45pm-4:15pm or 4:15-4:45pm Spin class at HHS.  Don't love Spinning? -that's ok, hop on an elliptical, recumbent bike or stair climber and get the same caloric burn with the added accountability and camaraderie of class time.  Don't need a cardio day?-that's ok, show up for class and go next door to the Spin/Cardio room to get in a strength training/toning workout in our machine weight room at HHS.

Wellness screening: The good news is....

New insurance requirement got you feeling down?  Read Doug Gann's Story

I've worked with Doug Gann for many years.  I've heard about his heroics as a high school athlete and UAB's first-ever quarterback (he also played baseball for the Blazers).  I have seen him complete in 5K's 10K's and half-marathons.  He is a beast of a CrossFit athlete and is even certified as a CrossFit coach.  And now, I'm giving everyone in our school system a chance to compete weekly to take him off the top of our leaderboard.  Check out the Individual Leaderboard tab above.  This particular data entry included three weeks of Patriot Points so don't be shocked by the numbers-they are legit.  If you are one of those folks who are no where near this level of devotion/time commitment, don't be discouraged by the big numbers next to the names of the people listed.  Instead, think about your commitment to wellness.  What is the level of commitment you can give to be better than you were the week before?  Recently, we all took part in a health screening required by our insurance.  I know we would rather not have this new requirement but maybe, just maybe we can turn this into something positive.  A few years back, Doug Gann had some stats that he probably wasn't very proud of-high cholesterol.  He could have blamed it on heredity or a bad meal the night before the screening.  Instead of doing that, he made lifestyle changes to change his fate.  And.. look.. where... he.. is now....

Win the week vs. Doug or win the week vs your stats.  Whatever the case, win the week.

Get moving..

HHS will host the virtual PPC Trophy.  Our current hardware is at Tim Lunceford's house in need of some repair.

This week HHS will host a FREE A Team workout.  See you Thursday at 4:00pm in the HHS weight room.

Keep Moving.

The wheels on the bus go round and round.....

Hello 2015

Welcome back! Hopefully, you have taken some time away from HCS to rest and refresh and get ready for a new calendar year.  I want to ask you to think about your personal goals which you probably had at the start of the school year.  Whether you actually wrote those goals down or simply thought about what you wanted to accomplish this school year, take time now to score yourself on your progress.  If you are progressing toward your goals-CONGRATS and keep moving forward!  If you are struggling with your goals, re-establishment commitment and take steps to succeed.  The Movement and wellness is more than simply physical goals.  Yes, fitness/nutrition (physical wellness) are interrelated to all of the dimensions of wellness but check out The Wellness wheel below.

I encourage you to think about all aspects of wellness as you look forward to the upcoming calendar year.  For example, we are educators and lifelong learners.  Does your PLP challenge you to better yourself professionally and intellectually?  Where are you on that journey?  How about the Social Dimension?  Are you a positive influence on your friends, family and co-workers?  Or do you struggle with negativity?  How about the Environmental aspect?  Does your work-space, home and vehicle lend itself to success? Or do you need to do some spring cleaning in January? Each section of The Wellness Wheel should be personal to the individual.  The three examples I explained above, Intellectual, Social and Environmental are my interpretation of The Wellness Wheel.  Each of you should take time to think through your personal Wellness Wheel and develop a plan to keep that Wheel MOVING forward.

PPC Trophy-HBOE squeaked out a win for Week #16.  Be sure to post your Patriot Points weekly.  30 minutes of scheduled exercise=1 point.
