March Madness Winners Announced

Three brackets, 86 participants, thousands of steps.  So many incredible stories of people literally "going the extra mile".  Personal Records (PR's) and achievements that no one thought possible.  Friendships and frenemies.  Employees who were beaten in earlier rounds coming back to step with employees still trying to advance in the bracket.  Employees walking together all over Homewoood,  schools opening up until midnight, employees checking in at Gold's Gyms, Planet Fitness, 24 hour gyms and even stepping at Lowe's to try to get those steps in.  It is hard to explain in words, but if you were part of the FitBit March Madness Step Challenge, you get it.  It was #stEPIC.

We will announce the time, date and location of our Meet and Greet to allow employees to get to know the amazing group of people who were part of this journey.  I truly hope you will make an effort to be there.  Door prizes will be given away and we will award the championship trophies and special gifts.

March Madness...Round 1 was stEPIC

FitBit March Madness

Wow.... Just wow... Round 1 of FitBit March Madness was completely maddening!   HCS employees went head to head competing to take more steps than their opponent in a 24 hour period.

Karen Baggett answered the phone a SCES while stepping on a treadmill.

Lori Sills had a similar plan at HKES.

HMS teachers walk together at the community garden, I caught up with them on my way to HBOE and made sure they were hydrating.

HHS students made posters to support Jana Watts who battled against Ben Berguson.

Rick Baguley steps out in the rain, after dark while his opponent-Paul Harbin is walking all over the city of Homewood on his way to a 60,000 step day!

Here are a few of the highlights of one of the stEPIC battles that occurred on Friday.
12:01AM-Joel Henneke's alarm clock sounds.   He begins marching.
5:00AM-Genie Christian completes an Iron Tribe workout at HHS and a big number of steps.
6:07AM-Step score update:  Joel-22,742  Genie-13,490
7:00AM-Joel boards a bus on a road trip with HHS choir to Indianapolis, Genie steps up and gets a HUGE lead at SCES during a day of stepping and teaching
9:16PM-Genie has 65,010 steps.  Joel is WAAAAY behind with 46,296 steps.  Joel texts this picture to me..

Joel checks in to the hotel and begins stepping.
Then this happens...

Joel won the showdown.  Amazing battle, awesome accomplishment for both of those competitors.  Genie set a goal to get 65,000 steps.  It was a personal goal that she set and she went and got it.  Joel set an alarm clock with a goal in mind.  He went and got it.

Step Stats from Rd 1 including all employees competing (86 participants):

  • Total Steps- 2,048,069
  • Total Distance Covered- 1,024 miles
  • 5 athletes with 60,000+ Steps: Joel Henneke, Genie Christian, Paul Harbin, Kelsie Lawson, Dominique Prince.

Be sure to check the UPDATED BRACKET   as the March Madness continues.

I can't wait to watch what happens in RD 2 Tuesday- the Sweet 16 and RD 3 Thursday- the Elite 8.

It's gonna be stEPIC......

March Madness Begins

83 employees will step off this week in the FitBit March Madness Challenge.  The competition will include individual opponents facing off for DAILY SHOWDOWNS.  The bracket is based off of each employee's average step count so you can expect some fierce battles!  Last week when I visited HKES, I witnessed first hand the preparation taking place for March Madness.  Kiana Coleman was stepping side-to-side as I explained how the competition would work.  Be sure to tune in to the next episode of The Movement Blog coming soon which will feature a video tutorial explaining the simplicity of the rules including NO SNEAKY SYNCS.

In the mean time... Keep Moving and POST THOSE POINTS!
