How did you do?

One of the greatest assets any of us can have is the ability to reflect, self-assess, learn from any shortcomings and repeat successful behavior.  Take a moment to think back over the past week and your approach to wellness.  Did you make some good choices or did you begin a downward spiral that you need to quickly address?  The good news is we are still early in our holiday season.  If you feel a bit out of control, start NOW with a plan for success moving forward!

Click here to post your Patriot Points.  Create a goal to score 6 Patriot Points weekly for scheduled exercise.  If you count steps, create a goal to improve your step count by 2000 steps daily.

Small changes can create big results.

Reflect, self-assess, make a plan, follow-through with the plan, repeat!

This week will begin the holiday season.  A few years ago I blogged about "The Eating Season" in reference to the holidays.  Each year we celebrate this time of the year with food, family, fun, football and quite possibly a few extra pounds.  While I certainly agree that it's necessary to enjoy a few extra treats, it's also a good idea to have a game plan going into the next few weeks to be sure you can enjoy the festivities and feel good about yourself after the eating season comes to an end.  Check out some quick tips from Bob Harper, trainer from The Biggest Loser.

Take some time away from schoolwork, enjoy your time with family and friends, enjoy the reason for the season and be sure to take care of yourself along the way.

Keep Moving.

State Champions for all of us..

Did you miss it?  This weekend our varsity cross country teams, both boys and girls, won state titles.  We have a DYNASTY not just a program but a championship producing program.  Check out the write-up in the Homewood Star.  I know you hear about a lot of great things that our kids do, academically, athletically, fine arts and so much more.  And, I realize that you always hear this, "We could not get those kids across the stage at graduation if it weren't for every person along the way from HCS who helps create the path for our kids." That is so true!  And it's true in our running/walking community.  Lars, Josh, Tom, Deanna, Genie, John, Justin, Eric and all of the coaches deserve a shout out.  Incredible work with our kids.  BUT,  YOU, yeah you, the person reading this also deserves a shout out.  If you are reading this, that means that you are part of The Movement.  You read the blog, post your Patriot Points, and do your part to make healthy lifestyle choices.  That's modeling wellness, that's setting an example for others, that's part of being well, that's part of a dynasty-the Homewood community of walkers, runners and people who exercise.   Congratulations to our cross country program, congratulations to you and as always Keep Moving...

On a mission

Fill in the blank.  "The Mission of Homewood City Schools is to _____________________"  I'll bet most every employee can perfectly state our mission statement without one mistake.  But do you LIVE it?  Do you empower students by providing an example of what unique potential actually looks like?  Check out this picture-Mission Statement at top of image, Walktober plan and weekly updates at bottom of image.
Genie's Plan

This is an example of one of our employees who literally WALKS her TALK.  If you stood next to Genie Christian during the month of Walktober, you probably know that this picture is her game plan for accomplishing her goal of not only winning Walktober but also setting an example of wellness for employees and students.  She followed a three step process for success:
  1. Created a game plan.
  2. Posted the plan so others could follow her journey and be inspired=accountability.
  3. Updated the plan each week to chart her progress.
What are your goals?  Are you reaching your unique potential?

BE INSPIRED AND BE INSPIRATIONAL.

Congratulations to Jana Watts and Cheryl Polk for winning their respective Walktober categories!  All three competitors will be awarded their Walktober trophy in the upcoming weeks.

Stats from Walktober:
  • 115 competitors
  • 13, 479.55 miles =distance covered by all competitors
  • Genie won the Very Active category=541.54 miles
  • Jana won the Active category=284.57
