So many winners....

Season 4 Recap
#WINNING

This week's blog is a feature story about a Homewood High graduate,  Ms. Genie Christian.  She was one of those athletes who came to every practice, never complained, brought every ounce of energy and enthusiasm she possibly could, never turned down a challenge and always had a smile to bring.  She was and is extremely successful.  Not because she had an easy "row to hoe" as my granny would say, but she was successful simply because she worked hard in the classroom, athletically and was willing to go the extra mile for anybody, anytime.  This year, Genie accepted the position at SCES as the elementary PE teacher.  Thank goodness, we brought this graduate back home.   This year, Genie, was asked to coach at HMS.  She said, "yes".  Genie was asked to be a Patriot Pack Leader, she said "yes".  She was asked to work with Girls On The Run (GOTR), she said, "yes".  She was asked to volunteer for multiple school events, she always says, "yes".  I was lucky enough to be one of Genie's high school coaches.  I know about her work ethic therefore I know she doesn't turn down too many challenges.  This year I challenged Genie to train for and complete a marathon.  In the picture above, you can see that Genie WON that challenge.  April 26th, she crossed the finish line in Nashville, St. Jude Marathon.  The race wasn't just about her winning the challenge.  Genie chose to raise money for GOTR and oh, by the way, a crew of Owls went to Nashville to support her in her marathon challenge.  Genie and SCES combined to win the 2014 Patriot Point Challenge.  This is a HUGE win for the Owls because they have finished in second place in 2/4 years of the Challenge.  They have never given up on this challenge.  This year, the Owls are on top!  This year they accepted the challenge and won the Patriot Point Challenge.  As we look forward to our summer and think back on this school year, reflect on your wins and losses this year.  Make a commitment to take some time this summer to plan your upcoming school year and how you will "WIN" for wellness.  Accept the challenge. Get moving.. Keep Moving..
